How to make a self portrait

Note: I wrote the draft of this piece using voice transcription as I took care of my new 4lb puppy, Miyoko. I’ve now gone and edited out all the puppy bits (hi sweetie and wow your teeth are so sharp and how can anyone be so perfect?), which I’m not sure was an improvement. I hope you enjoy it anyway!


As a follow up on this month's post about Selfies, I'm here to share with you a few different ways to go about practicing self portraits. You may not be surprised to hear me say this, but there is truly no wrong way to do it, and depending on what you want the process to feel like (or the end product to look like) you could approach it in a wide variety of ways. Here are four that I like.

Look

The first one is the most expressive, quickest, and easiest to do, and it’s much more about looking than drawing. All you need is a mirror or a photo of yourself, something to draw on and something to draw with. Here's the photo I'm using:
