Hello dear Easy Does It artists!
Today I have a new kind of post for you. Last month I filmed about 2.5 hours of real time process working through the creation of a new piece, Safe Enough to Rest. I share my entire process, keeping no secrets! We'll take it from my initial idea seeds through many iterations until I found my way to the piece that felt complete.
The video is this post is Part 1. It's about one hour long and when you watch you can join me as I explore different concepts and compositions for my idea, ways to use color and text, how incorporate inspiration without copying, and the different considerations that go into communicating an idea visually, as I sort out what visual components I think will add meaning to my piece and what might distract.
I have bought classes from advanced artists who teach this way: just doing their own work and sharing what they're thinking out loud as they do it, and it's helped me a lot. I imagine these videos being a calming creative companion if you'd like to play it while you do your own painting practice.
Editing videos of this length is new to me and working on this project took me down a weeks-long adventure of clearing out space on my hard drive and learning new software. It's not fancy but I hope it's at least easy to watch and helpful to you. Now that I know how to do it, I think I'll have part 2 out later this week. I'd appreciate any feedback from you on how you like the video format too.
The video is embedded below the break and is available to paid members of all tiers. A couple of screenshots are here too to give you an idea of what the video is like. Enjoy!
